Grand View Outdoors, publisher of Predator Xtreme magazine (who I occasionally write for), posted an article up about fur handling. After giving it a good read (which doesn't take long) I thought I'd share it with you since I feel the article gives a good explanation of the basics concerning what to do and what not to do.

How much do good pelts go for?
ReplyDeleteBill
Depends on the species and the market. Also depends a lot on the display of the pelts at the market, i.e. how "pretty" the seller has made them by cleaning them and displaying them. Last year in AZ, the market average for the more popular species was around $25-$40 for gray fox, $220-$400 for bobcats, and coyotes (as usual) were about $15 or under, with a few going for higher but most of them remaining unsold. The highest I know of for an AZ bobcat in an AZ market last year was $600. This year, however, I'll be selling my pelts at the Canadian market, as some of my hunting partners nearly doubled their money up there last year.
ReplyDeleteHoly crap, I had no idea Bobcat pelts went for that much!
ReplyDeleteWell then...
I may have to try that out. I'll see you at the clinic in Jan ;)

I've had pelts go for $80 and pelts for $550 - there's a handful of factors that go into that difference, but in my opinion any bobcat left out to rot is money left behind.
ReplyDeleteYou'll learn more about it at the Coyote Clinic. See you then!
